Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F/43°C) with 1 tablespoon of sugar and the yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
- 3
- 4
Form the Dough
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Filling Preparation
- 6
Prepare the Filling
In a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- 7
Roll out the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 16x24 inches).
- 8
Spread the Butter
Spread the softened butter evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- 9
Rolling and Baking
- 10
Roll the Dough
Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
- 11
Cut into Rolls
Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 5 equal pieces.
- 12
Second Rise
Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- 13
Preheat Oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) during the second rise.
- 14
Bake the Rolls
Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Icing Preparation
- 15
Make the Icing
In a mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- 16
Ice the Rolls
Once the rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the icing over the top.
