Method

Preparing the Espresso

  1. 1

    Grind the Coffee Beans

If using whole coffee beans, grind them to a fine consistency using a coffee grinder. Use about 18-20 grams of coffee for two shots of espresso.

  2. 2

    Brew the Espresso

Place the ground coffee in the portafilter of the espresso machine. Make sure it is evenly distributed and tamped down firmly. Lock the portafilter into the machine and start brewing to extract the espresso shots.

Frothing the Milk

  1. 3

    Heat the Milk

Pour 6 oz of milk into a steaming pitcher. Use the steam wand of the espresso machine or a separate milk frother to heat the milk until it’s hot but not boiling (about 150°F or 65°C).

  2. 4

    Froth the Milk

Position the steam wand just below the surface of the milk and turn it on. Move the pitcher in a circular motion to create a whirlpool effect until the milk doubles in volume and is frothy.

Assembling the Cappuccino

  1. 5

    Combine Espresso and Milk

Pour the freshly brewed espresso shots into a cup. Slowly add the frothed milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon to create a layered effect.

  2. 6

    Add Sugar and Cocoa

Sprinkle 1 tsp of sugar and 1 tsp of cocoa powder on top of the frothed milk for added flavor and garnish.

  3. 7

    Serve

Serve immediately while hot. Enjoy your delicious homemade cappuccino!
