Topping (optional)

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat. Add a pinch of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until al dente, stirring occasionally.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, sprinkle in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour. Stir constantly for about 1-2 minutes to create a roux.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk until smooth. Continue cooking for about 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove the pot from heat. Stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, 0.25 teaspoon of black pepper, and 0.5 teaspoon of garlic powder until the cheese is melted and the sauce is creamy.

Combining and Serving

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is well coated.

  2. 9

    Optional Topping

If desired, in a small bowl, mix 0.5 cup of breadcrumbs, 0.25 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, and 0.5 teaspoon of paprika. Sprinkle over the mac and cheese.

  3. 10

    Bake (optional)

For a crispy topping, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.

  4. 11

    Serve

Serve the mac and cheese warm and enjoy!
