Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper. Add the flank steak, ensuring it is well coated. Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.

  2. 2

    Cook the Steak

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing into thin strips.

Pickling the Onions

  1. 3

    Prepare the Pickling Solution

In a small saucepan, combine white vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium until the sugar and salt are dissolved, then remove from heat.

  2. 4

    Pickle the Onions

Place the sliced red onion in a jar or bowl and pour the pickling solution over them. Let them sit for at least 10 minutes while you prepare the rest of the bowl.

Assembling the Bowl

  1. 5

    Prepare the Rice

If not already done, cook the rice according to package instructions. Set aside.

  2. 6

    Fry the Eggs

In a small skillet, fry the eggs sunny-side up or to your preference.

  3. 7

    Assemble the Bowl

In a bowl, start with a base of cooked rice. Top with sliced steak, pickled red onions, julienned carrots, sliced avocado, and shaved red cabbage. Finish with a fried egg on top and sprinkle with chopped green onions.
