Cream Cheese Frosting

Method

Preparing the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, warm the milk until it's lukewarm (about 110°F). Add the active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar, stirring gently. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, melt the butter and let it cool slightly. Add the eggs and the frothy yeast mixture to the melted butter, whisking until smooth.

  4. 4

    Form the Dough

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Assembling the Monkey Bread

  1. 6

    Prepare Cinnamon Sugar

In a medium bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

  2. 7

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small pieces (about the size of a golf ball). Roll each piece into a ball.

  3. 8

    Coat with Cinnamon Sugar

Dip each dough ball into melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.

  4. 9

    Layer in Pan

Grease a bundt pan and layer the coated dough balls in the pan. Pour any remaining melted butter and cinnamon sugar mixture over the top.

  5. 10

    Second Rise

Cover the bundt pan with a cloth and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Baking and Frosting

  1. 11

    Bake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the monkey bread for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  2. 12

    Cool and Frost

Allow the monkey bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate. Meanwhile, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.

  3. 13

    Serve

Drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the warm monkey bread and serve immediately.
