Directions
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Marinate
In a bowl, combine the calamari rings and buttermilk. Let them marinate in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
- 3
Mix the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- 5
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the rings in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully place the coated calamari in the hot oil, frying in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 7
Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
