Baklawa Ingredients

Method

Baklawa Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Filling

In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

  2. 2

    Assemble the Baklawa

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Take one sheet of filo pastry and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush again with butter. Repeat this process until you have 4 layers.

  3. 3

    Add the Filling

Spread a portion of the nut filling evenly over the layered filo pastry. Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling and brush the top with more melted butter. You can cut the baklawa into squares or diamonds at this stage for easier serving.

  4. 4

    Bake the Baklawa

Place the baklawa in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklawa is baking, combine the honey and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  6. 6

    Finish the Baklawa

Once the baklawa is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the honey syrup over it. Allow it to soak for at least 10 minutes before serving.
