Method
Main Salad
- 1
Prepare tuna
Drain the canned tuna well, then flake it into a large mixing bowl with a fork until there are no large chunks.
- 2
Combine base ingredients
To the bowl with tuna add mayonnaise and sour cream. Stir gently to combine until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
- 3
- 4
Season
Sprinkle in the salt, black pepper, and dried seaweed flakes (if using). Mix gently and set aside while you make the dressing so flavors meld.
Aromatic & Citrus
- 5
Make the dressing
In a small bowl whisk together fresh lime juice, soy sauce, honey (or brown sugar), minced ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil until the honey is dissolved and the dressing is uniform.
- 6
Finish salad
Pour the dressing over the tuna mixture and fold gently to coat all ingredients. Taste and adjust seasoning — add an extra pinch of salt or a squeeze of lime if desired. Chill the salad for 15–30 minutes to allow flavors to marry, or serve immediately if preferred.
Garnish & Serve
- 7
Plate and garnish
Transfer the Tuna Luau to a serving bowl or plate. Sprinkle toasted macadamia nuts or chopped peanuts on top and scatter sliced green onions. Serve with lime wedges on the side.

Serve options
Spoon onto crackers or crostini, or pile into crisp lettuce leaves for handheld cups. Provides about 12 small servings as an appetizer or 4 hearty servings as a light meal.
