Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare the glass

Select a highball glass (10–12 oz). Fill the glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes to chill the glass and keep the drink cold while preserving the layered look.

  2. 2

    Add tequila and orange juice

Pour 2 oz silver tequila over the ice, then add 4 oz fresh orange juice. Stir gently once with a bar spoon (about 2–3 slow turns) to combine the tequila and orange juice without aerating or warming the mixture.

  3. 3

    Create the sunrise effect

Measure 0.5 oz grenadine syrup. Slowly pour the grenadine down the inside edge of the glass or let it drip gently over the back of a spoon held just above the surface. Because grenadine is denser, it will sink through the orange-tequila mix and settle at the bottom, creating the layered 'sunrise' gradient.

  4. 4

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with an orange wheel on the rim and a maraschino cherry (optional). Serve without stirring so the sunrise gradient remains. Provide a straw or stirrer on the side for the drinker to mix if desired.
