Bloody Mary Cocktail
Method
Bloody Mary Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass
If desired, rim a highball or pint glass with lime and dip in a small plate of celery salt. Fill the glass with ice. Alternatively, simply fill the glass with ice without rimming.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker or mixing glass, add 1 cup of ice, 2 oz vodka, 4 oz tomato juice, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce, 3 dashes hot sauce, 0.5 tsp prepared horseradish (if using), 1 tsp celery salt, and a pinch of fine sea salt.
- 3
Season and mix
Add 2 cranks of freshly ground black pepper. Stir the mixture briskly with a bar spoon for about 20–30 seconds (stirring rather than shaking keeps the tomato juice from foaming and retains a smooth texture). Taste and adjust heat or seasoning: add more hot sauce, Worcestershire, salt, or horseradish to suit preference.
- 4
Strain and serve
Place fresh ice in the prepared serving glass if you used a shaker. Strain the mixed Bloody Mary into the glass over the ice.
- 5
Garnish
Garnish with a large celery stalk, a lime wedge on the rim, and thread 3 pitted green olives on a cocktail pick and rest across the glass. Serve immediately.
- 6
Optional: For a spicier, thicker version, stir in additional horseradish (up to 1 tsp) and an extra dash of hot sauce. For a lighter version, reduce tomato juice to 3 oz and add 1 oz club soda just before serving.
