Method
Cocktail
Chill glass
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes, or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the glass is very cold.
Measure and add spirits
Pour 2.5 oz Ketel One vodka into the mixing glass over the ice.
Add smoked olive brine
Add 0.5 oz smoked olive brine to the mixing glass. If you want a drier, more traditional profile, add only 0.25 oz and increase dry vermouth to 0.5 oz; if you prefer very dirty, keep 0.5 oz or go up to 0.75 oz.
Optional vermouth
Add 0.25 oz dry vermouth if you want a faint herbal backbone. This is optional — the drink also works with just vodka and brine.
Stir to chill and dilute
Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 25–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns). You want the drink well chilled and slightly diluted. If using a shaker, shake briskly for 8–10 seconds and then strain — stirring is recommended to keep clarity.
Strain and serve
Double-strain or fine-strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled martini/coupe glass to remove small ice shards for a clean presentation.
Garnish & Finish
Skewer olives
Thread 2 smoked olives on a cocktail pick or skewer. If the olives are very large, one olive is fine.
Flame or smoke (optional)
For an extra smoky aroma: briefly pass the olive skewer over a smoking gun's smoke or hold it near a small kitchen torch (not lighting the olive) to warm slightly and release aroma. Alternatively, briefly wave the skewer through the smoke from a smoldering rosemary sprig or wood chip for a few seconds.
Garnish and serve
Place the olive skewer into the cocktail so it rests across the rim or sits in the drink. Serve immediately while cold.
