Method
Crust Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- 8
Add Tomato Sauce
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 9
Add Cheese
Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce.
- 10
Add Basil and Olive Oil
Tear the fresh basil leaves and sprinkle them over the cheese. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt to taste.
- 11
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 12
Slice and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice and serve hot.
