Method

Glass preparation

  1. 1

    Rim the glass

Run the lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or margarita glass. Spread the coarse salt on a small plate and gently press the wet rim into the salt to create an even salted edge. Set the glass aside.

Mixing

  1. 2

    Measure and combine

Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz triple sec, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup (or 0.5 oz water plus 1 tsp granulated sugar if you prefer) into a cocktail shaker.

  2. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 6 oz by volume). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the outside is frosted.

  3. 4

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail (use the shaker strainer and a fine mesh if available) into the prepared glass over fresh ice if serving on the rocks, or without ice if serving straight up.

  4. 5

    Garnish

Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim or floated in the drink. Serve immediately.
