Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks (about 1-2 inches). This allows them to cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Mashing

  1. 3

    Drain and Steam

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander. Return the potatoes to the pot and let them steam for a couple of minutes to remove excess moisture.

  2. 4

    Add Ingredients

Add 4 tablespoons of butter, 1 cup of milk, and 1 cup of sour cream to the potatoes. Also, add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and additional salt to taste.

  3. 5

    Mash the Potatoes

Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Be careful not to over-mash, as this can make the potatoes gluey.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve Hot

Serve the mashed potatoes hot. You can garnish with additional butter or fresh herbs if desired.
