Method

Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, making a slight indent in the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place two slices of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Toppings

  1. 3

    Prepare the Toppings

While the patties are cooking, wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Slice the tomato and onion into thin rounds. Prepare the pickles and set all toppings aside.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 4

    Build the Burger

Toast the hamburger buns if desired. On the bottom half of each bun, layer the lettuce leaves, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese. Top with slices of tomato, onion, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste before placing the top half of the bun on.

  2. 5

    Serve

Serve the burgers warm with your favorite side, such as fries or a salad.
