Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Take an old-fashioned glass (or a rocks glass) and place it in the freezer for a few minutes to chill.

  2. 2

    Muddle the Sugar and Bitters

In the bottom of the chilled glass, place the sugar cube. Add the two dashes of Angostura bitters on top of the sugar cube. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube and mix it with the bitters until the sugar is mostly dissolved.

  3. 3

    Add Whiskey

Pour 2 ounces of whiskey over the muddled sugar and bitters mixture in the glass.

  4. 4

    Add Ice

Fill the glass with ice cubes until it is nearly full.

  5. 5

    Stir the Cocktail

Using a bar spoon or a regular spoon, stir the mixture gently for about 20-30 seconds to chill the drink and combine the flavors.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Take a piece of orange peel and twist it over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into the glass as a garnish. Optionally, add a maraschino cherry on top for extra sweetness.
