Preparation
- 1
Zest the Citrus
Using a microplane or zester, carefully zest 1 cup each of lemons and oranges, making sure to only remove the colorful outer layer and not the bitter white pith.
- 2
Infuse the Vodka
In a large glass jar or bottle, combine the lemon zest and orange zest with 750 ml of vodka. Seal tightly and let it sit in a cool, dark place for at least 5 days, shaking gently every day to mix the flavors.
- 3
Prepare the Simple Syrup
While the vodka is infusing, prepare the simple syrup. Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan (for example, 250 ml of each). Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool.
- 4
Juice the Citrus
After the vodka has infused for 5 days, juice enough lemons and oranges to yield about 200 ml of each juice. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove pulp and seeds.
Mixing
- 5
Combine Ingredients
In a large pitcher or mixing bowl, combine the infused vodka (remove the zest), simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and fresh orange juice. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
- 6
Chill the Mixture
Cover the pitcher and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
