1

Chill glass

Place the serving glass (old-fashioned/rocks glass) in the freezer for several minutes or fill it with ice and set aside while you prepare the drink so the glass is well chilled.

2

Measure and add spirits

Add 2 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth into a mixing glass or a cocktail shaker large enough to hold ice.

3

Add mixing ice

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of fresh, cold ice (about 1 cup or until the glass is mostly full) so the drink chills properly without over-dilution.

4

Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture for 25–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations). The goal is to chill the drink thoroughly and achieve slight dilution—when the outside of the mixing glass feels very cold and some small shards of ice have formed inside.

5

Prepare serving glass

Discard the ice from the chilled serving glass if you used it to chill. Place a single large clear ice cube or sphere into the glass.

6

Strain

Strain the stirred mixture over the large ice cube into the prepared rocks glass using a Hawthorne or julep strainer to catch any small ice.

7

Express and garnish

Take a fresh orange peel and gently express the oils over the drink by holding it skin-side down about an inch above the surface and giving it a quick, firm squeeze. Rub the peel around the rim of the glass, then drop the peel into the drink as garnish.

8

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of bitter Campari, botanical gin, and the rich, vanilla-spiced Carpano Antica sweet vermouth.
