Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass (optional mezcal rinse)

If you want an extra mezcal aroma, pour about 1/4 oz Montelobos mezcal into the chilled serving glass, swirl to coat the inside, then discard excess or leave in. Alternatively, rim the glass with a very light sprinkle of smoked sea salt.

2

Add ingredients to shaker

Fill a cocktail shaker with the specified ice (about 1 cup). Add 2 oz Montelobos mezcal, 0.5 oz Green Chartreuse, 0.25 oz Luxardo Maraschino, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into the shaker.

3

Dry shake (optional)

Optional: For a slightly brighter, more integrated texture, seal the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 8–10 seconds to aerate (this is optional because the recipe contains only citrus and small sugar—dry shaking can lighten the mouthfeel).

4

Shake with ice

Add ice if you dry-shook, or if you already had ice in the shaker proceed directly: shake hard for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and well-diluted (aim for about 20–25% dilution overall).

5

Strain

Double-strain (using a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer) into a chilled coupe or rocks glass over fresh ice, depending on preference (coupe for neat, rocks for on-the-rocks). If you used a mezcal rinse, pour into that prepared glass.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wheel or a thin lime twist expressed over the drink to release oils, then set on the rim. Serve immediately.

Tips

Adjust balance: if the drink tastes too herbal/complex, increase simple syrup by 0.25 oz. If it’s too sweet, reduce Maraschino to 0.125 oz. Green Chartreuse is potent—stick to the 0.5 oz to keep herbal notes rather than dominate. Use fresh lime juice for best brightness.
