1. Prepare the Asparagus

Trim the tough ends off the asparagus and cut them into 1-inch pieces.

2. Sauté the Aromatics

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

3. Cook the Asparagus

Add the asparagus pieces to the pot and sauté for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Add the Broth

Pour in the vegetable broth, season with salt and pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, until the asparagus is tender.

5. Blend the Soup

Using an immersion blender, blend the soup until smooth. If using a regular blender, let the soup cool slightly before blending in batches.

6. Serve

Ladle the soup into bowls, swirl in crème fraîche, and garnish with chopped chives before serving.
