Method

Preparing the Coffee

  1. 1

    Brew the Espresso

Brew 1 cup of espresso coffee and allow it to cool slightly. If desired, mix in 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur for added flavor.

  2. 2

    Sweeten the Coffee

Add 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar to the warm espresso and stir until dissolved.

Making the Filling

  1. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until the mixture turns pale and creamy.

  2. 4

    Incorporate the Mascarpone

Gently fold in 500 grams of mascarpone cheese into the egg mixture until fully combined and smooth.

  3. 5

    Whip the Cream

In a separate mixing bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form.

  4. 6

    Combine the Mixtures

Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, ensuring not to deflate the whipped cream.

  5. 7

    Add Vanilla

Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the filling mixture until well incorporated.

Assembling the Tiramisu

  1. 8

    Dip the Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the coffee mixture and place them in a single layer at the bottom of a rectangular dish.

  2. 9

    Layer the Filling

Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the layer of dipped ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.

  3. 10

    Repeat the Layers

Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone filling.

Finishing Touches

  1. 11

    Chill the Tiramisu

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 12

    Serve and Garnish

Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
