Cocktail Base

Method

Prepare Glass

1

Chill and (optional) salt rim

Place the pint glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes to chill. If you want a salted rim: rub the lime wedge around the glass lip, then dip the rim in coarse salt to coat lightly. Discard excess salt.

2

If you prefer your cocktail over ice, add 3–4 fresh ice cubes to the chilled glass. For maximum carbonation and a lighter presentation, serve without ice.

Build the Bud

3

Add modifiers

Pour the 0.5 oz aged pale rum (optional) and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice into the chilled glass. Add two dashes of Angostura bitters. These small additions round out the beer and add subtle complexity while keeping the beer-forward character.

4

Top with beer

Hold the glass at a slight angle and slowly pour the 12 fl oz light lager down the side to preserve carbonation and create a small foamy head. If you used ice, pour more slowly to avoid overflow.

5

Give the drink a gentle stir with a bar spoon (1–2 turns) to integrate the rum, lime, and bitters without flattening the beer.

Finish & Serve

6

Garnish with the lime wedge on the rim, or squeeze it over the top for a touch more citrus before dropping it in. Serve immediately while the beer is cold and fizzy.

7

Tasting note: the cocktail should be light and refreshing with a hint of lime and bitters — the rum is optional and only meant to add subtle body if desired.
