Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass (optional)

If you prefer your Scotch slightly colder without over-dilution, place the rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before preparing the drink.

2

Add ice

Place one large ice cube or sphere into the chilled or room-temperature rocks glass. A single large cube melts slower and minimizes dilution.

3

Measure and pour

Using a jigger, measure 2 oz single malt Scotch and pour it over the ice into the glass.

4

Optional: add water

If desired, add about 1/4 oz (a few drops to 1/4 oz) of room-temperature or chilled water to open the whisky's aromatics and soften the palate. Stir gently once with a bar spoon (about 4–6 slow rotations). If you prefer neat, skip this step.

5

Garnish

Express the oils of a lemon or orange twist over the surface of the Scotch by holding the twist over the glass, skin-side down, and giving it a quick pinch. Run the twist around the rim and drop it into the drink (or discard if you prefer no garnish).

6

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the whisky's aroma, body, and finish. Replenish ice if it melts and you prefer a colder drink.

Use a jigger to measure the whisky accurately. Use a bar spoon to stir if adding water. Use a peeler or paring knife to make a citrus twist for garnish.
