Method
Cocktail Base
Prepare juice
If using whole mandarins, peel and juice enough mandarins to yield 3 oz (about 2–3 small mandarins). Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a measuring cup to remove pulp and seeds, if a smoother texture is desired.
Combine liquids
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz vodka, 3 oz freshly squeezed mandarin juice, 0.5 oz triple sec, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice.
Sweetener & Balance
Add 0.5 tablespoon simple syrup to the shaker. If using bitters, add 2 dashes. Taste after shaking and adjust sweetness with an extra 0.25 tbs simple syrup if the mandarins are tart.
Ice & Garnish
Shake
Add a generous handful of cubed ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.
Strain & Serve
Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or rocks glass over fresh ice if preferred. For a clearer presentation, double-strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove any remaining pulp or ice shards.
Garnish
Garnish with a mandarin slice or a thin orange twist perched on the rim and an optional mint sprig for aroma. Serve immediately.
