Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a martini/coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

2

Measure and combine

Into a cocktail shaker add 2 oz chilled vodka, 0.75 oz Cointreau (or triple sec), 0.5 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 0.5 oz cranberry juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup. The small amount of simple syrup is optional—use it if your cranberry juice is very tart or you prefer a slightly sweeter profile.

3

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup or enough to nearly fill the shaker). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes cold and slightly frosted. This both chills and dilutes the drink to the proper balance.

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled the glass with ice water, dump it out now. If you used the freezer, remove the glass and have it ready.

5

Double strain and serve

Open the shaker and strain the cocktail through a fine-mesh strainer into the chilled martini/coupe glass (this removes small ice shards and any pulp from the lime).

6

Garnish

Express the oils of a lime or orange twist over the surface of the drink by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a quick snap, then drop the twist into the drink or rest it on the rim.

7

Serve

Serve immediately while very cold. Sip and enjoy.
