Toppings

Method

Burger Patty

1

Prepare the Black Beans

In a medium bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

2

Mix the Ingredients

Add the oats, chopped onion, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, olive oil, and chopped cilantro to the mashed black beans. Stir until well combined.

3

Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty.

4

Cook the Patties

In a skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are crispy and heated through.

Toppings

5

Prepare the Toppings

While the patties are cooking, slice the avocado, tomato, and red onion. Set aside.

6

Assemble the Burger

Once the patties are cooked, spread vegan mayo on the bottom half of each burger bun. Place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty, and top with sliced avocado, tomato, red onion, and vegan cheese, if using.

Buns

7

Toast the Buns (Optional)

If desired, toast the burger buns lightly on a skillet or in a toaster until golden brown.
