Brewing Process
1. Step 1: Mashing
Heat the water to 65°C (149°F) and add the barley malt. Maintain this temperature for 60 minutes to allow the starches to convert to sugars.
2. Step 2: Lautering
After mashing, separate the liquid wort from the grains. This can be done by draining the wort through a sieve or a special lautering system.
3. Step 3: Boiling
Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for about 60 minutes, adding any additional hops according to your recipe for bitterness and flavor.
4. Step 4: Cooling
After boiling, cool the wort rapidly to about 20°C (68°F) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.
5. Step 5: Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel and add the yeast. Seal with an airlock and let it ferment at a stable temperature for about 1-2 weeks.
6. Step 6: Bottling and Carbonation
Once fermentation is complete, dissolve priming sugar in a small amount of water and add it to the beer before bottling. This helps carbonate the beer as it continues to ferment in the bottle.
7. Step 7: Enjoy
After about 1-2 weeks in the bottle, your draft beer is ready to be enjoyed. Chill and serve fresh!
