A unique combination of specially selected herbs with saffron and topped with beer.

Place the crushed saffron threads into a small heatproof bowl. Pour 2 tablespoons hot (not boiling) water over saffron and let steep 5–8 minutes until deeply colored and fragrant.

In a mixing glass or shaker, add the torn mint, torn basil, and optional lemon verbena. Add honey and the bloomed saffron with its liquid. Gently muddle 10–15 strokes to release aromas and dissolve honey — do not pulverize to a paste.

Add fresh lemon juice, orange juice, lime juice, cold water, and simple syrup (if using) to the muddled herb-saffron mixture. Stir or shake briefly to combine and taste for balance. Adjust sweetness with more honey or syrup if needed.

Let the mixture sit 2–3 minutes so the saffron and herbs infuse. Then double-strain through a fine mesh strainer (or a cocktail strainer and a fine sieve) into a chilled serving glass or a small pitcher to remove herb bits and saffron sediment.

Fill the serving glass with crushed ice or a few large cubes to about three-quarters full.

Pour the strained saffron-herb-citrus base over the ice, leaving room at the top for beer (about 1 inch). Stir gently once to marry flavors with the ice.

If desired, add 1 ounce cold sparkling water to lengthen the drink before adding beer.

Top slowly with 4 ounces well-chilled light lager or nonalcoholic beer poured over the back of a spoon to create a gentle foamy crown and preserve effervescence.

Garnish with a mint sprig slapped between your hands to release aroma and an orange wheel or twist placed on the rim.

Serve immediately while the beer head is fresh. Provide a straw or stirrer so the drinker can gently mix beer into the saffron-herb base to taste.
