Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of the pasta water.
Making Sauce
- 4
Heat Olive Oil
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
- 5
Sauté Garlic
Add the minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant, making sure not to burn it.
- 6
Add Tomatoes
Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, breaking them up with a spoon. Stir to combine.
- 7
Season Sauce
Add salt and black pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 8
Add Basil
Towards the end of the cooking time, add the fresh basil leaves to the sauce, stirring them in gently.
Combining
- 9
Combine Spaghetti and Sauce
Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to achieve desired consistency.
- 10
Serve
Serve the spaghetti pomodoro hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
