Method

Preparing the Pasta

  1. 1

    Cook the Rigatoni

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the rigatoni in a colander and set aside. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water for later use.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 5

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 7

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water.

Combining and Serving

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Once the Bolognese sauce is ready, add the cooked rigatoni to the sauce. Toss well to ensure the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 9

    Serve

Divide the rigatoni Bolognese among plates. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
