Cocktail base

Method

Prepare & muddle

  1. 1

    Muddle cucumber

Place 3 cucumber slices into a cocktail shaker. Add the fresh lemon juice (0.75 oz). Using a muddler, press and twist the cucumber firmly 6–8 times until it releases juice and aromatic oils but not completely pulverized.

Shake & combine

  1. 2

Add 2 oz vodka and a generous scoop of ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker with the muddled cucumber and lemon. Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled ( exterior of shaker should be frosty ).

  2. 3

Strain the chilled mixture into a highball glass filled with fresh ice using a fine mesh strainer (to catch cucumber bits) or a Hawthorne strainer.

  3. 4

Top the strained cocktail with 2 oz lemon-lime soda and 1 oz club soda. Give the drink one gentle stir (2–3 slow turns) to integrate the sodas without losing too much effervescence.

Finish & garnish

  1. 5

Carefully float 0.5 oz watermelon schnapps on top: pour the schnapps slowly over the back of a spoon held just above the drink surface so it stays as a distinct layer rather than mixing immediately.

  2. 6

Garnish with a lemon wheel on the rim (or a thin cucumber ribbon inside the glass) and serve with a straw. Recommend stirring once before sipping so the watermelon flavor incorporates as you drink.
