Method
Build & Stir
Add ingredients to mixing glass
Place a mixing glass or lowball mixing vessel on your bar surface. Add 2 oz Bulleit 95 Rye and 0.25 oz simple syrup to the glass.
Add bitters
Add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters directly into the mixing glass with the whiskey and simple syrup.
Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice (large cubes preferred). Stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted, and properly integrated. Aim for a slight frosting on the outside of the glass and about 25–30% dilution by taste.
Serve & Garnish
Prepare serving glass
Place a single large ice cube (or a few large cubes) into a chilled Old Fashioned (lowball) glass.
Strain
Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain the stirred cocktail from the mixing glass into the serving glass over the large ice cube.
Finish with cherry
Garnish with 1 Bordeaux cherry by dropping it into the glass or skewering it on a toothpick and resting it across the rim.
