Cocktail

Method

Garnish & Glass Prep

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes to chill, or fill with ice water while preparing ingredients.

  2. 2

    Prepare sugar rim

Run the lemon wedge around the outer rim of the chilled glass (or the inner rim if preferred). Pour the granulated sugar onto a small plate and gently roll the wet rim through the sugar to create an even sugar coat. Tap off excess sugar and set the glass aside.

Cocktail

  1. 3

    Measure & combine

Into a cocktail shaker add 2.5 oz vodka, 1 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.75 oz simple syrup, and 0.5 oz orange liqueur if using.

  2. 4

    Add ice & shake

Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well-chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.

  3. 5

    Strain

Discard ice from the chilled glass if you used ice water. Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared sugar-rimmed martini or coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or just a Hawthorne if you don't have one) to remove ice shards and any pulp.

  4. 6

    Garnish & serve

Twist a lemon peel over the drink to express oils and drop it in, or perch a lemon twist on the rim. Optionally float the lemon wedge on the rim. Serve immediately while ice-cold.
