Whiskey & Mixer

Method

Glass preparation

1

Select a chilled or room-temperature old-fashioned/rocks glass. If you prefer a colder drink, place the glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill with ice and discard before proceeding.

2

Place one large ice cube (or a few large cubes) into the glass.

Build the drink

3

Measure and pour

Measure 2 oz of The Macallan 12 and pour it directly over the ice in the prepared glass.

4

Optional: Add water

If you prefer the whisky slightly opened up, add 0.5 oz (about a splash) of fresh cold water to the glass. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 8–10 seconds to combine and chill the spirit without over-diluting.

Garnish & finish

5

Cut a strip of orange peel with a paring knife or vegetable peeler, about 1½–2 inches long and ½ inch wide. Hold the peel with the skin side facing down over the glass and give it a firm twist to express the oils over the surface of the whisky.

6

Run the expressed peel around the rim of the glass to transfer aroma, then drop the peel into the drink or rest it on the ice as a garnish.

7

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the aroma and complex flavors of The Macallan 12.
