Margarita Base
Carbonation & Chill
Garnish & Rimming
Method
Margarita Base
Chill a 2–2.5 quart pitcher in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes while you prepare ingredients; cold base keeps dilution minimal.
Juice limes
If not using pre-squeezed juice, roll and halve fresh limes and juice until you have 1 cup (about 8–10 limes depending on size). Strain through a fine mesh to remove pulp and seeds for a smooth pitcher margarita.
Make or measure simple syrup
If you don't have simple syrup ready: combine equal parts granulated sugar and water (1 cup sugar + 1 cup water) in a small saucepan, heat gently until sugar dissolves, cool completely. Measure 1 cup for the pitcher.
Combine base ingredients
Pour 2 cups blanco tequila, 1 cup orange liqueur, 1 cup fresh lime juice and 1 cup simple syrup into the chilled pitcher. Stir vigorously for 20–30 seconds to homogenize.
Taste and adjust
Taste the mixture. If it tastes too strong, add up to 1/4 cup more simple syrup or 2–4 tablespoons more lime juice to balance. Record any adjustment so you can replicate it.
Carbonation & Chill
Add ice to pitcher
Add 3–4 cups of ice into the pitcher to rapidly chill the margarita base. Stir gently for 10–15 seconds to cool without excessive dilution.
Optional fizz
If you want a lightly effervescent pitcher, add 2 cups chilled club soda or sparkling water right before serving and stir gently to combine. If not using, omit this step.
Garnish & Rimming
Prepare rim
Pour 1/2 cup coarse salt onto a shallow plate. Run a lime wedge around the outer rim of each glass, then dip the rim into the salt to coat. Twist to remove excess.
Serve
Fill salted glasses with ice. Pour margarita from the pitcher into each glass. Garnish each glass with a lime wheel or wedge. Plan for about 6 drinks per pitcher (see servings).
