Frozen Margarita Base

Method

Garnish & Glass Prep

1

Prepare the salt rim

Pour the coarse salt onto a shallow plate. Run a lime wedge around the outer rim of four margarita or rocks glasses to moisten. Press each glass rim gently into the salt, twisting to coat evenly. Set glasses in the freezer or refrigerator to chill while you make the cocktail.

2

Cut lime wedges and set aside one lime wheel or wedge per glass for garnish.

3

Measure and combine liquids

In a measuring pitcher or directly into the blender jar, combine 1.5 cups blanco tequila, 0.75 cup fresh lime juice, 0.5 cup orange liqueur, and 0.25 cup simple syrup. Stir briefly to combine so the liquids are evenly mixed before adding ice.

4

Add ice

Add 6 cups of ice to the blender. If you prefer a thicker, slushier texture, use crushed ice; for a slightly smoother, less dense drink use large ice cubes. Do not over-pack the blender—leave some space for proper blending.

5

Blend

Blend on high in 20–30 second pulses, pausing to check texture. Continue blending until the mixture is a smooth, slushy consistency with no large ice chunks (typically 45–90 seconds depending on blender power). If the mixture is too watery, add a cup more ice and pulse to thicken. If too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons cold water, orange liqueur, or more lime juice to loosen; blend briefly to incorporate.

6

Taste and adjust

Taste a small spoonful. Adjust sweetness or acidity if needed: add up to 1 tablespoon simple syrup to sweeten, or 1 tablespoon lime juice to brighten. Pulse once or twice to mix any additions.

7

Portion and serve

Divide the frozen margarita evenly among the prepared chilled glasses. Use a spoon to level or mound the slush attractively. Garnish each glass with a lime wheel or wedge (and optional orange slice). Serve immediately with a straw or short cocktail spoon.
