Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mixing Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Forming the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Burger Patty

  1. 3

    Preheating the Grill or Skillet

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little oil if using a skillet to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cooking the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

  3. 5

    Adding Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

Preparing the Special Sauce

  1. 6

    Mixing the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, and pickle relish. Mix well until smooth and uniform.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 7

    Toasting the Buns

Optional: Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 8

    Layering the Ingredients

Spread a generous amount of special sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, the cooked patty with melted cheese, slices of tomato, and the top half of the bun.
