Soda Base

Method

Soda Base

1

Prepare glass and ice

Chill a tall glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes if possible. Add 6 ice cubes to the glass just before assembling to keep the soda cold without diluting too quickly.

2

Pour 2 cups chilled sparkling water and 1/4 cup cold filtered water into a measuring pitcher. The extra cold water helps moderate carbonation intensity and allows flavor integration without losing fizz.

Flavor Concentrate

3

In a small bowl or jigger combine 1 tablespoon strained fresh citrus juice, 2 tablespoons premium fruit syrup (or cordial), and 1 teaspoon simple syrup. Stir until homogeneous. Taste and adjust sweetness: add up to 1/2 tsp more simple syrup if you prefer sweeter soda, or an extra 1/2 tbsp citrus for brighter acidity.

4

Pour the flavor concentrate into the glass with ice. Pour the chilled sparkling + cold water mixture slowly over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass to preserve effervescence and mix gently. Avoid vigorous stirring to retain carbonation.

Aromatics & Finish

5

Lightly clap or slap the fresh herb sprig once between your palms to release oils, then tuck it into the glass or float on top. Garnish the rim or surface with a citrus twist or wheel.

6

If using, add 2 dashes of bitters on top to add aromatic depth. Allow the drink to rest 20–30 seconds so aromas bloom, then serve with a straw or stirring spoon. Provide a small spoon so the drinker can re-mix gently if ingredients separate.
