- 1
Prepare the glass
Run the lime wedge around the outside rim of a chilled coupe or rocks glass to moisten it. Spread the coarse salt on a small plate and press the glass rim lightly into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice (strain if you prefer no pulp), 1 oz orange liqueur, and 0.5 oz simple syrup if you like a slightly sweeter margarita. Add a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup).
- 3
Shake
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is very cold and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.
- 4
Strain and serve
Double-strain (fine mesh strainer optional) the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh ice if serving on the rocks, or without ice for a straight-up coupe. Avoid pouring any seeds or large pulp into the glass.
- 5
Garnish
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.
