Method
Cocktail
- 1
Chill flute
Place a champagne flute in the refrigerator or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the glass is cold.
- 2
Combine base ingredients
Add the gin, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) so there is enough to properly chill and dilute the mixture.
- 3
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold. This chills and slightly dilutes the mixture for balance.
- 4
Strain
Discard the ice or water from the chilled flute if you used it. Fine-strain or double-strain the shaken mixture into the chilled champagne flute, leaving room for the sparkling wine (pour to about two-thirds full).
- 5
Top with sparkling wine
Carefully top the flute with 3 oz (about 90 ml) of well-chilled champagne or dry sparkling wine. Pour slowly down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles and avoid overflow.
- 6
Garnish & serve
Express a lemon twist over the drink to release the oils, run it around the rim if desired, then drop the twist into the flute. Serve immediately while the cocktail is cold and effervescent.
