Cuba Libre Cocktails

Batch (makes 6 cocktails)

Method

Cuba Libre Cocktails

1

Prepare Glass

Choose a highball or Collins glass (10–12 oz). Fill the glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes (approximately 1 cup).

2

Add Spirits and Lime

Pour 2 fl oz light rum over the ice. Squeeze half a lime (about 0.5 fl oz) directly into the glass to capture fresh juice and a little pulp; drop the squeezed lime wedge into the glass if you like extra aroma.

3

Top with Cola

Slowly pour 4 fl oz chilled cola into the glass to preserve carbonation. Stir gently once or twice with a bar spoon or long spoon to combine the rum, lime juice, and cola, taking care not to over-stir and release too much fizz.

4

Garnish and Serve

Taste and adjust: add a little more lime juice if you prefer brighter acidity. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and/or a lime twist. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick.

Batch Preparation (6 servings)

5

Chill and Measure

Chill a pitcher and cola in the refrigerator ahead of time. Measure 12 fl oz light rum and 3 fl oz fresh lime juice.

6

Combine

In the chilled pitcher, combine the 12 fl oz light rum with 3 fl oz fresh lime juice. Stir briefly to mix.

7

Add Cola Just Before Serving

When ready to serve, add 24 fl oz chilled cola to the pitcher. Stir gently once to combine, taking care to preserve carbonation.

8

Serve

Fill six highball glasses with about 1 cup ice each. Pour the mixed Cuba Libre evenly into the glasses. Garnish each with a lime wedge (or twist) and serve immediately.
