Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or chilled cocktail glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you build the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or shaker filled about two-thirds with ice, add 2 oz High West Bourbon, 1 oz Vermouth Berto Antica, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

3

Stir

Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until the exterior of the mixing glass feels very cold and the drink is properly diluted (roughly 15–20% dilution).

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled your serving glass with ice water, dump the ice water and dry the glass. If it was in the freezer, remove it now.

5

Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, double-strain or fine-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass (or a rocks glass if preferred).

6

Express lemon twist

Cut a 1-inch-wide strip of lemon peel. Hold it over the cocktail, skin-side down, and give it a firm twist to express the oils onto the surface of the drink. Optionally rub the peel around the rim for extra aroma.

7

Garnish and serve

Drop the twisted lemon peel into the cocktail or rest it on the rim. Serve immediately.
