Base

Method

Base

1

Chill and prepare

Ensure the grape juice is well chilled. Pour 4 cups of chilled 100% Concord grape juice into a clean pitcher large enough to hold additions and allow gentle stirring.

2

If you prefer a lighter, slightly effervescent Kiddush, optionally reserve 1 cup of chilled sparkling water or club soda to add at the end (see Optional additions).

Optional additions

3

Citrus and mint infusion (optional)

If using citrus or mint, lightly bruise the mint leaves between your fingers to release aroma. Add lemon and orange slices and the bruised mint leaves to the pitcher with the grape juice. Gently stir once or twice to combine and let sit 2–5 minutes to infuse.

4

Sweetening (optional)

If you want a slightly sweeter Kiddush, stir in up to 2 teaspoons of honey or agave syrup while the juice is at room temperature or slightly chilled so it dissolves easily. Taste and adjust (up to 1–2 tsp total).

5

Spiced variation (optional)

To add a warm note, drop 1 cinnamon stick into the pitcher and let it steep in the chilled juice for 5–10 minutes, then remove before serving to avoid overpowering the flavor.

6

Sparkling finish (optional)

If using sparkling water or club soda for effervescence, add up to 1 cup just before serving and stir gently once to combine. Do not over-stir to preserve bubbles.

7

Garnish

Skewer 6–8 grapes or float them in the pitcher and add citrus slices to the Kiddush cup or pitcher rim for an attractive presentation.

Service

8

If desired, place ice cubes in individual serving cups rather than the pitcher to avoid diluting the juice for everyone. For cold weather or if serving immediately, you may omit ice.

9

Pour the prepared grape juice into the Kiddush cup or individual glasses. If using the sparkle option, pour gently to preserve carbonation. Present for Kiddush.

10

Leftovers: Refrigerate any unused juice in a covered container for up to 5–7 days. Remove citrus or cinnamon stick if left in the juice for long-term storage to prevent off-flavors.
