Water Preparation

Method

Sanitation

1

Sanitize packaging and tools

Wipe or rinse the inside of the carton, cap, funnel, and filling equipment with the diluted food-safe sanitizer (100 ml as prepared). Allow items to remain wet for the contact time recommended by the sanitizer manufacturer (usually 30–60 seconds), then drain or air-dry briefly so sanitizer contact time is achieved before filling.

2

If using a reusable funnel or pump, flush it with 250 ml purified water after sanitizing to remove any residual sanitizer taste, then drain.

Water Preparation

3

Filter and chill

Ensure the base water is filtered through a high-quality carbon/particle filter and (if desired) a final 0.2–1.0 micron filter to remove particulates. Chill the filtered water to 4–10°C (39–50°F) for best flavor and reduced microbial growth before packaging.

4

Optional mineral/alkalinity adjustment

If you prefer a slight alkalinity or mineral outline, dissolve 0.25 tsp of sodium bicarbonate and 0.125 tsp of food-grade potassium carbonate into the 1 liter of filtered water. Stir gently until fully dissolved. Taste and adjust very slightly (a pinch more of either) only if desired; small changes significantly affect flavor. These additions are optional — plain filtered water can be used without them.

5

Perform a quick sensory check (look for clarity, no off-odors). If water appears cloudy or smells unusual, discard and re-filter.

Filling and Sealing

6

Fill the carton

Place the sanitized carton on a clean surface. Using a sanitized funnel or filling spout, slowly pour or pump the chilled prepared water into the carton, leaving a small headspace as recommended by the packaging design (usually 10–20 mm). Avoid splashing to minimize air entrainment.

7

Seal

Immediately close and seal the carton using its cap or heat-seal method. Ensure the seal is complete and leak-free. Wipe any exterior droplets from the carton with a clean, sanitized cloth.

8

Label the carton with product name (Boxed Still Water), bottling date, and best-before date (for water stored in sealed cartons, a typical recommendation is 1–2 years depending on packaging and storage conditions).

Storage and Serving

9

Store the sealed boxed water in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odors. Best served chilled. Once opened, keep refrigerated and consume within 3–5 days for best taste and safety.

10

If using multiple cartons, rotate stock by date (first in, first out).
