Method
Tea
Brew tea
Bring 2 1/4 cups of water to a near boil. Add 2 regular black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose black tea in an infuser) and steep 4–5 minutes for a strong brew. Remove tea bags or leaves and allow tea to cool to room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator until cold (about 20–30 minutes). The recipe uses 2 cups cooled tea; any extra may be used for another drink.
Lemonade
Make lemon juice
Juice fresh lemons until you have 1 cup (about 4–6 medium lemons). Strain to remove seeds and pulp if you prefer a clear drink.
Make simple syrup (if not prepared)
Combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. This yields 1 cup simple syrup.
Combine lemonade
In a pitcher, combine the 1 cup fresh lemon juice, 1 cup simple syrup, and 1 cup cold water. Stir until fully combined. Taste and adjust: add up to 2 tablespoons more simple syrup if you prefer sweeter, or another 1/4 cup water if too tart.
Assembly
