Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Vegetables

Slice the mushrooms and onion thinly. If using, slice the hot and sweet peppers to prepare them for topping.

  2. 2

    Cook the Impossible Meat

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Impossible meat. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula until browned and heated through.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and mushrooms to the cooked Impossible meat. Sauté for an additional 5-7 minutes until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are tender.

  4. 4

    Season the Mixture

Season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Hoagie Rolls

While the vegetable and meat mixture is cooking, slice the hoagie rolls down the middle without cutting all the way through.

  2. 6

    Add Cheese

Once the vegetable and meat mixture is cooked, divide it evenly among the hoagie rolls. Place two slices of white American cheese on top of each filled roll.

  3. 7

    Melt the Cheese

You can either place the filled rolls under a broiler for a few minutes until the cheese melts or cover the skillet with a lid to steam the cheese for a few minutes until melted.

  4. 8

    Add Optional Toppings

If using, top the cheesesteak with sliced hot or sweet peppers before serving.
