Method

Fried Pickles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the dill pickle chips and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, set up your breading station. In the first bowl, add the all-purpose flour. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined. In the third bowl, combine the cornmeal, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Pickles

Take a dill pickle chip, coat it in flour, dip it in the egg mixture, then dredge it in the cornmeal mixture until fully coated. Repeat this process with all pickle chips.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle and turn golden brown.

  5. 5

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully add the breaded pickle chips to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried pickles and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Ranch Dressing

  1. 6

    Make the Dressing

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, buttermilk, dried dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until smooth and well combined.

  2. 7

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the ranch dressing and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and black pepper if needed.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve the fried pickles warm with the ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
