    Preheat the Oven

    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    Prepare the Baking Pan

    Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Cream the Butters and Sugars

    In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

    Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

    Combine Dry Ingredients

    In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

    Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients

    Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

    Pour and Spread the Batter

    Pour the brookie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

    Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and optional nuts.

    Layer Cookies on Top of Brookies

    Spoon dollops of cookie dough on top of the brookie batter in the baking pan, spreading it evenly.

    Bake the Tray

    Bake the tray in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    Cool and Serve

    Allow the tray to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Cut into squares and serve.
