Sandwich Assembly

Method

Prepare Meatballs

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20 minutes or until browned and cooked through.

Make Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and fresh basil. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assemble Sandwich

  1. 6

    Prepare the Rolls

Slice the sub rolls in half and place them on a serving platter.

  2. 7

    Add Meatballs and Sauce

Place 2-3 meatballs on each roll and generously spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs.

  3. 8

    Add Cheese

Top each sandwich with 2 slices of provolone cheese and sprinkle with grated Romano cheese.

  4. 9

    Melt Cheese

If desired, place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
