Pasta and Protein

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Preparing the Protein

  1. 2

    Cook the Chicken or Shrimp

In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. If using chicken, cut it into bite-sized pieces and season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until cooked through. If using shrimp, season with salt and pepper and cook for 3-4 minutes until pink. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Making the Cajun Cream Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté Vegetables

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and butter. Add minced garlic, chopped onion, and chopped red bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the onion is translucent.

  2. 4

    Add Seasoning and Cream

Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning and mix well. Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine. Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Cheese

Gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring until melted and the sauce is creamy. Add salt and black pepper to taste.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  1. 6

    Combine

Add the cooked penne pasta and the cooked chicken or shrimp into the skillet with the sauce. Toss everything together until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.

Making the Garlic Bread

  1. 7

    Prepare Garlic Bread

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the French baguette in half lengthwise. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with garlic powder. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the baguette. If desired, sprinkle with chopped parsley.

  2. 8

    Bake

Place the baguette halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve

Serve the Cajun pasta hot with a side of garlic bread. Enjoy your meal!
